Study with me — Spanish — Part 5
In this lesson, we will learn about subject pronouns and basic verb conjugation in the present tense in Spanish.
Let’s dive in! 😎
Subject Pronouns
Subject pronouns are words used to replace or represent a noun that is the subject of a sentence. They indicate who is performing the action of the verb.
Present Tense (Presente)
Verbs in Spanish change their form depending on the subject they are associated with.
Each verb has different conjugation endings depending on the subject pronoun.
The present tense in Spanish is used to describe actions that are currently happening, habitual actions, general truths, future actions, and in certain cases, past actions.
Actions Happening Now
Describe actions that are currently taking place.
Example: Estoy leyendo un libro. (I am reading a book.)
Habitual Actions
Express actions that regularly occur or habits.
Example: Todos los días voy al gimnasio. (I go to the gym every day.)
General Truths
State facts or general truths that are true in the present.
Example: El sol sale por el este. (The sun rises in the east.)
Future Actions
Indicate future actions or events that are scheduled.
Example: Mañana vamos al cine. (Tomorrow we are going to the movies.)
Historical Present
Use present tense for dramatic effect in narratives to describe past events.
Example: Entro en la habitación y veo un regalo. (I enter the room and see a gift.)
