Kana (Hiragana) Practice Reading

Let’s practice our hiragana reading skills.

Story 1

ひらがな

ゆきはにほんのわかいおんなのこです。

かのじょはにちようびに、ひとりでほんばでピクニックをたのしんでいます。

ゆきはあたらしいもうふをもってきました。

かのじょはさくらのはなをみて、そのうつくしさにいきをのみます。かぜがそよぎ、はなびらがおどります。

かのじょはおべんとうをひらけ、てづくりのおにぎりとおいしいおかずをたべます。

とりたちのさえずりがきこえ、かのじょはここちよいじかんをすごします。

たまにかのじょはほんをよみながら、たそがれをたのし みます。

そして、ゆきはにちようびのピクニックをまんきつします。

Romaji

Yuki wa Nihon no wakai onnanoko desu.
Kanojo wa nichiyoubi ni, hitori de honba de pikunikku o tanoshindeimasu.
Yuki wa atarashii moufu o mottekimashita.
Kanojo wa sakura no hana o mite, sono utsukushisa ni iki o nomimasu.
Kaze ga soyogi, hanabira ga odorimasu.
Kanojo wa obentou o hirake, tezukuri no onigiri to oishii okazu o tabemasu.
Tori-tachi no saezuri ga kikoe, kanojo wa kokochiyoii jikan o sugoshimasu.
Tamani kanojo wa hon o yominagara, tasogare o tanoshimimasu.
Soshite, Yuki wa nichiyoubi no pikunikku o mankitsu shimasu.

English

Yuki is a young Japanese woman.
She enjoys a picnic by herself in a field on Sunday.
Yuki brought a new blanket.
She watches the cherry blossoms and takes in their beauty, as the wind rustles and petals dance.
Opening her bento, she eats homemade onigiri and delicious sides.
She listens to the chirping of birds and relishes the pleasant time. Sometimes, she enjoys the twilight while reading a book.
And so, Yuki fully enjoys her Sunday picnic.

Story 2

ひらがな

るなはかわいいくろねこです。
かのじょはとうきょうのみちをちょうちょうをおいかけています。
るなはおもしろそうなちょうちょうをみつけ、こうふんします。
かのじょはしっぽをふりふりしながら、かけまわります。
くるまやひとびとのあしのまをすりぬけ、ぼうけんのたのしさをあじわいます。
るなはまるでにんじゃのようにびんしょうにうごきます。
そして、ちょうちょうのおをおいつづけます。

Romaji

Runa wa kawaii kuroneko desu.
Kanojo wa Tokyo no michi o chōchō o oikaketeimasu.
Runa wa omoshirosōna chōchō o mitsuke, kōfunshimasu.
Kanojo wa shippo o furifurishinagara, kakemawarimasu.
Kuruma ya hitobito no ashi no ma o surinuke, bōken no tanoshisa o ajiwaimasu.
Runa wa marude ninja no yō ni binshō ni ugokimasu.
Soshite, chōchō no o oitsuzukemasu.

English

Luna is a cute black cat.
She’s chasing a butterfly on the streets of Tokyo.
Luna finds an intriguing butterfly and gets excited.
With her tail swishing, she dashes around.
She slips between cars and people’s feet, savoring the thrill of adventure. Luna moves agilely, almost like a ninja.
And so, she continues to pursue the butterfly’s tail.
