Don’t let fear control your life

“The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward.”

We’re all faced with decisions. They occur with each step that we take. How are we to know which one will change our lives? Or, maybe, one by one, little by little, our lives are completely changed without us noticing while it happens. My whole life I’ve been afraid of making a decision, of choosing something, because it might have not been the right one. But is this even called living? Being always in the shadow of fear makes everything to seem terrifying and I came to realise that it’s a waste of time, of living, of everything. I always regret things that could have been but were not because I was too afraid to shape my life based on so many unknown variables. It doesn’t seem like I’ve been truly alive until now.

It is indeed scary when you think that one small detail can change your whole life in a single instant. But why does it scare us so much? I think it reminds us that we are not in control, which terrifies us. The unknown it’s a frightening place to be in, and we don’t like to see life as such. But living in fear is not a good way of conducting one’s life, if it’s one at all. We will never be in total control, and admiting that it’s the very first step of liberating ourselves of that pressure. It’s okay to feel a bit afraid, but we need to face our fears and take some action. Whatever we are worried about holds its tight grasp upon us, so letting it go would give us a little bit of the control back. Life ends in the blink of an eye either if we’ve experienced life fully or not. I’m not saying to rush into any decisions, or to be reckless, but don’t back down from something you might want to do. Enjoy life as it comes, even in the harder moments, and don’t overthink every little detail.

Whether the output of my actions are in my favour or not, I feel that, instead of choosing to not do anything, it is better to learn from the experiences I’d encounter when I choose to act. And I’d like to think that you will do the same.
